Shreya leaves Kolkata yearning for more!

Feb 1, KOLKATA: It was the big evening that Kolkata had been waiting for weeks. The excitement was palpable and Kolkatans could wait no longer for their tryst with Shreya Ghoshal-the princess, the Diva of the Nation & the sweetheart & heart-throb of millions, at the Nicco Park.
It was evident from the long queues that formed hours before she took the stage for the Times of Youth Challenge on the second day of Times Kolkata Festival. And Shreya did not let them down. They witnessed a thoroughly entertaining performance by the singer, who set the stage alive with her feet-tapping numbers that left the audience pining for more when she signed off.
Dressed in a blue top and jeans, Shreya exuded energy and exuberance that swayed the audience. She smiled, often shook her leg and made the audience sing along with her. Every slow, romantic number was interspersed with a fast one that had the audience in raptures. The crowd cheered, whistled and threw requests for their favourite numbers.
Shreya sayd, “Every visit to the city is special, for Kolkatans have a great sense of music. So, let’s have a great evening together. Kolkata, please sing with me,” Shreya invited the audience to join her. They were only too happy to oblige.
Starting off with ‘Mere piya’, she moved on to superhit numbers like ‘Agar tum mil jao’, ‘Pal pal’, ‘Teri or’ and ‘Ami je tomar’. Then, there were sensuous numbers like ‘Jadoo hai nasha hai’ and ‘Yeh ishq hai’ that had the audience jiving to the music.
Shreya was soon joined by Kuntal and they teamed up to churn out several soulful duets. As requests kept pouring in, Shreya took the liberty of singing a two-liner from the recent Shah Rukh Khan hit Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. “This is a short and sweet number that’s my favourite. Shah Rukh Khan fans should love it.”
She followed it up with numbers from Om Shanti Om and Devdas.
But it wasn’t just about racy, feet-tapping numbers from Bollywood hits. Shreya proved that she was equally at ease singing Bengali songs, even Rabindrasangeet. Her rendition of ‘Ektuku choan lage’ took the audience’s breath away. Shreya followed it up with the slightly altered version of ‘Pagla Hawa’ from the film Bong Connection. It was loved by the young and old alike.
The final phase of the concert was again marked by her trademark romantic numbers like ‘Jia dole’ and ‘Tere ankhon ke matwale’. Shreya signed off with ‘Dola re’ from Devdas that had shot her to fame. The crowd had gone wild by then.
Shreya declared before bowing out for the evening, - “It’s always nice to perform for The Times of India. Their events catch the spirit of the city in a special way. I would love to return next year,”.
Shreya, "Times & Kolkatans will wait for your return!!
