Shreya Ghoshal has won her 3rd consecutive Screen Awards(branded as Colors Screen Awards this year).

Shreya won the 2012 Colors Screen Award for the Best Female Singer for her naughty yet classic rendition of the mighty hit song, Ooh La La, from the 2011 blockbuster movie - The Dirty Picture.

This year's award is the 18th chapter of the Screen awards.

The grand finale of X-Factor India took place on 2nd September. Contrary to all expectations Shreya's Geet Sagar won the X-Factor final. Great moment for all the lovers of Shreya Ghoshal.

This victory was more a victory for Shreya Ghoshal than for Geet, for its a fact that Geet won primarily due to the excellent mentoring by Judge Guru Shreya than any other factor. I personally felt that Geet Sagar hardly had that spark of quality which makes a great singer. At the best, he was a hardworking, casual singer who could perform with zest and panache on stage. I think Geet Sagar's victory can be attributed more to his all around performance than to his vocal skills. He won as a package rather than as a product.

The 27-year old with the movie star looks and voice of an angel has gone from reality TV show winner to film phenomenon with unforgettable hits like Bairi Piya, Yeh Ishq Hai, Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai, Barso Re and Teri Ore. Ghoshal has won a huge number of accolades, including 4 National Awards and give Filmfare and has delivered hits in different languages and worked with the biggest music directors around. If that wasn’t enough, the classically trained singer has also developed a reputation for being one of the best live performers in the world.

Shreya will be delivering one of these amazing performances at Wembley Arena at the end of this month and in Leicester a few days later. Eastern Eye caught up with the melody queen to find out more about her concerts, her incredible journey in Bollywood, dealing with sky-high expectations and why she isn’t interested in acting.

Q: When you first started out, did you think you would become so successful?
A: (Smiles) When I started out, I was just a kid! I think I was too young to even think or decide if music was to become my career or not. So knowing about whether I would be successful was out of question at that point. Music was always something that came so easily to me and I have always enjoyed singing more than anything else in the world.

Q: How would you describe your time in music?
A: The music of today’s time is exactly mirroring the lives of the modern Indian society; it’s very smart, influenced by globalisation and at the same time rooted in our traditions. There are lots of experimental films happening in the world of Bollywood, so music in these films is a mixed bag of genres – folk, rock, qawwali, ghazhal, pop, thumbri. But not necessarily all experiments have the best outcome. (Smiles) Some are good and some are disasters.

Q: When did you feel that you had made it to the top?

A: I don’t think I have because I don’t know the meaning of ‘top’ and how it is measured. Art or music is either extraordinary or simply bad.

Q: How much does it mean to you when you win all these awards?
A: I don’t sing to win awards. I have never entered a studio, heard the song and gone to the mic to sing, thinking it will get me a National Award. Awards are motivating and encouraging to any talent and it definitely makes me feel responsible towards music lovers and their expectations from me. I just hope I always entertain them and surprise them with better songs every time

Q: Which award means most to you?
A: The national awards are very close to my heart. It is won on the basis of merit of the performance and not on popularity of the work.

Q: Which songs have you enjoyed singing most?
A: All my songs. If I am unable to enjoy the songs and the process of recording I would rather not sing because it would sound half hearted and disconnected. But I think Yeh Ishq Hai was one song, it was super fun and had fabulous music arrangements. I enjoyed this recording a lot.

Q: Who has been the most interesting person you have met in the film industry?
A: (Smiles) There have been plenty. My interactions have been with music-related people the most. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is my most favourite. He is fun-loving and madly passionate about films, music and food. Most of the music directors and co-singer’s I work with are quite fun-loving. Everyone has a different style of humour which combined with their respective talents, is a lethal combo.

Q: How does being in the studio compare to the stage?
A: The two are completely different experiences. Studios are serene and that’s where brilliant ideas are put together and a beautiful song is created, whereas live concerts are larger than life. The energy, adrenaline rush, excitement, music and interaction with the audience take the experience to a different level altogether.

Q: What has been your most memorable concert?
A: There have been many. My performances at Sydney Opera House, Esplanade (Singapore) and Bandra Fort plus many more in other cities have been memorable experiences. Soon I am going to perform at Wembley too. I am totally geared up for yet another exciting experience.

Q: How much are you looking forward to performing in the UK?
A: Very much! I came (to Britain) last year and I am so happy and honoured that the organisers wanted to do bigger shows
this time because of the love UK showered on us. I feel loved, thank you. The UK has an awesome audience. What more do I want?

Q: Can you tell us about the show?
A: There will be two concerts coming up, one on April 30 at Wembley Arena in London and the other on May 2 in Leicester. I am performing with my band of musicians and male co-singer Shiv Prasad Mallya. Then there is Harpreet, a finalist from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa who will enthrall you with his powerful voice. Comedy-wise, we have Gaurav Sharma from the TV show, Laughter Challenge.

Q: How do UK audiences compare to those in India?
A: UK Audiences are full on energy and love. They never feel shy to express their joy and enthusiasm. I had wonderful audiences at my concerts last year.

Q: How do you manage to do such long and amazing live sets?
A: I love performing. That’s enough to inspire me. Also, many of my fans drive for hours with the whole family just to attend the concert, so the least I can do is deliver a wonderful evening to take back in their hearts. I feel humbled.

Q: Where does the power in your voice come from?
A: God, it’s all given by the almighty. I just do my practice and continue learning and bettering my techniques.

Q: Which of your songs usually get the greatest response?
A: I get great responses from the latest releases, like the songs from Dabangg and Zoobi Doobi (3 idiots). The most requests are for Teri Ore, Yeh Ishq Hai and Mere Dholna. Jaadu Hai Nasha and songs from Devdas are also popular, as is Agar Tum Mil Jao, which still gets an amazing response.

Q: Which classics do you enjoy singing?
A: Oh, there are so many. Lataji rules my heart. Her songs by composers like SD Burman, Madan Mohan, RD Burman and Salil

Chowdhury are my favourites.

Q: People have sky-high expectations of you. Does that put any pressure on you?
A: (Thinks) Hmmm, no, I think it’s a good pressure. It keeps me pro-active and inspires me to do new things and explore more. I am thankful to them for having high expectations from me, that itself is the biggest award I could have received.

Q: What is the secret of a good live set?
A: There is no secret really. Apart from good vocals and music, and a thoughtfully chosen graph or tempo of the songs, which includes all kinds; emotional, romantic, classical, pop-ish, folkish, rocking, heart-touching and soulful. Otherwise the concert is monotonous. But in the end, everything is finally decided by the atmosphere, the audience’s mood and the vibe. There are always changes in the list of songs on the stage when requests start flowing in.

Q: What are your greatest unfulfilled ambitions?
A: None! I am not too ambitious. I like to live in the moment. I don’t like planning my future or regretting the past.

Q: Who would you love to collaborate with?
A: I would like to collaborate with new people instead of the already established ones, especially the hidden talents in India. And there are many.

Q: Do you have any ambitions away from music like acting?
A: I have never been too confident about acting. There have been many good offers from well-known directors, but it’s just not my calling/ I like to sing. If i ever want to act, I will first try to master the art to some level before taking up any project. But I will appear in music videos, whenever I do any.

Q: Apart from singing what do you do better than your close friends?
A: (Laughs) nothing at all! Ok, no jokes. I can cook better than many of my friends. Yes, I am confident about that.

Q: What advice would you give to an aspiring singer?
A: Learn about music. Your passion should be singing, not the idea of becoming famous. If you strive for excellence, success will have to follow. Be the best at what you take up, be it singing, painting, engineering, entrepreneurship, politics, photography or anything else. You may want to watch the movie 3 idiots to understand what I am trying to say.

Q: What else can we look forward to from you in the future?
A: Some interesting sings have been recorded, which will be released later. My latest song is Mehki Mehki, from the film Game.

Q: Which of your unreleased songs do you think will be monster hit?
A: I can’t say or judge a song that way, but do have some interesting stuff coming up. What the audience like or what the music companies decide to promote as a blockbuster film or song is always a mystery to us.

Q: Finally why should we all come to see you perform live?
A: Because I love my UK audience. You guys are super cool and so am I. (Laughs) A little buttering up is allowed, right? But seriously, please come as I know we will have a great evening together with some meaningful music as well as a lot of ‘dhamaal’ in store.

Shreya is currently busy planning her tours of UK, South Africa & Netherlands. The tours begin on 24th April with a live do at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg, South Africa. This will be followed by Wembley Arena London, UK on the 30th April. On 2nd of May Shreya heats up Leicester,UK and then on 5th she will be performing at the World Forum Theater The Hague, Netherlands. So, a busy month ahead for the Diva.

This news is exceptional. It’s never happened to an Indian artiste in the recent history. The news is that the Ohio State of United States has declared June 26th as the Shreya Ghoshal Day. This honour was given to Shreya for her contribution to the music industry. Now, that’s something really incredible and calls for endless applauses for Shreya Ghoshal.

The first lady of d(the) state presented me this honour while I was performing yesterday...It’s an honour which has been given (to) personalities, artists n literates since many years. I was informed tht(that) Tagore(Rabindra Nath Tagore), Swami Vivekananda.... were the recipients that time. I was too overwhelmed at this thought. My name went into the same archives. Unimaginable! “

The recent IMPACT shows(10 shows) of our princess Sherya Ghoshal held in the United States in March 2010 have been pronounced as major blockbusters! These shows of Sherya Ghoshal were so successful that on huge public demand more shows are are being organised.

Sherya is now going on a tour of 6 cities of U.S.A and Canada. She is accompanied by Bollywood's famous singers K.K and Richa Sharma.

The first show will be in Chicago on 18th June. K.K will perform in this show with Richa Sharma. The next show will be on 19th June in Seattle. On 20th June, the mesmerising Sherya Ghoshal will showcase the magic of her voice in Vancouver. All same three will then perform on 25th June in Washington, on June 26 in Columbus and on June 27 in Northern Alberta.

Shreya surely seems to have a huge fan base in US.

Sherya Ghoshal says that "I am very exited about my last shows done in U.S.A and Canada because in these shows I got the love of the audience,and this is the only reason that i want to entertain them again by my songs and i hope that i will always get the love of the audience. Rocky of Balaji told that "The show which had to be on 11th June in Atlanta was canceled due to some visa problems,but now that show will be on 3rd July ,in which Pakistani singer Ali Zaffar is going to perform with the Indian singers.".

Growing up with music

I spent about 13 years of my childhood in Rawatbhata, a small village near Kota, Rajasthan. It was a township, which was cut off from the urban city life. I used to travel 10 KM up and down to Kota to learn music. I learnt classical Hindustani there. In fact, one of my initial achievements was at this place. I was nine years old then. I didn’t get the opportunity to learn Carnatic music. Then 'Sa Re Ga Ma' gave me a lot of exposure. But my first big break was singing for 'Devdas'.

Inspiration from family

My mom is a housewife and my dad an engineer. We Bengalis simply love music. My mother has been my musical inspiration and even today I look up to her opinion — be it criticism or appreciation. I need her guidance forever. But my dad silently appreciates me and whatever I am today is because of him.

Reality shows — then and now?

When I won 'Sa Re Ga Ma', the platform didnt actually become a reality show. It wasn’t that big or commercial. There wasn’t an audience reaction like today. TV itself was not that big those days. Judges in such shows used to be big names from classical music such as Zakir Hussain, Girija Devi and the like. But now the format has changed a lot. People from all over the world watch these shows, therefore the reach is bigger. Audiences make heroes out of their singers. I believe that the scope for classical music still exists, which I realised when I was doing 'Music Ka Maha Muqabla'.

Your take on remixes

I haven’t done a remix song as yet although some songs of mine have been remixed. Honestly I liked the original versions better. I'm okay with doing a remix as long as it enhances the song. I feel music enthusiasts do a fantastic job with remixes.

Is the music industry’s still a man’s world?

I would not completely agree with it. It’s a phase. Currently, it is Sufi music that is the trend and that is a male-dominated area. But things will not be the same forever.

About being a versatile singer

All that I can say is I pay close attention to the music director and lyricist when the concept and situation of a song is being explained. I write down the lyrics in Devanagri marking all the places with required accents. I try my best to sing it as perfectly as possible. But there have been occasions when I have made mistakes and I read the reviews on the Internet. I only try to improve myself.

Our cute songtress Shreya Ghoshal has won the Kerala State Film Award for the best female playback singer for her song, ‘Chandhu Thottille’ in Banaras! This is another addition to her ever expanding kitty of awards.

Shreya herself was, infact, quite surprised to get this state-level recognition so soon in her Malayalam singing career as she is relatively new to Malayalam songs. Shreya Ghoshal says that "she never thought she would get an award for a Malayalam song as the language isn’t easy".

Our princess thanked M Jayachandran, the composer of the song, for giving her a lovely song like that and helping her to do justice to it.

Shreya has earlier sung ‘Vida Parayukayano’ for the Mammootty starrer Big B, ‘Vennilave’ in Sagar Alias Jacky and ‘Anuraaga Vilochananayi’ in Neelathamara.

Recently, Shreya Ghoshal had a tough time shooting for one of the episodes of Star Pluss’ Music Ka Maha Muqqabla as she had to perform wearing a sari. Believe me Shreya looks super sexy in sari. I still remember Shreya looking stunning as she wore a black chiffon saree and sang the eternal seduction song, 'Jadoo Hai Nasha Hai' on Sony some years back.

Shreya Ghoshal one of the six captains of Star Plus' Music Ka Maha Muqqabla, easily captures the difficulties of sur and taal. However, the girl had to face a tough time when it came to conquering her costume- the traditional Indian sari!

According to reports,for the upcoming episode that is to be aired this weekend(9th Jan), Shreya had to make an entry, where she had to climb the steps to the stage while simultaneously lip synching a few lines from the soundtrack that was being played. However, Shreya kept stumbling during the shoot, because the nails on the steps kept pulling at her sari. The poor thing couldn't decide on what to concentrate more, the singing or the sari.

Eventually Shreya asked if she could skip the first few steps, and when the director gave the go ahead, Shreya started climbing the steps from halfway and made the intended grand entry.

Shreya's challenger in this episode, Shankar Mahadevan, showered Shreya with compliments. Shankar said, Shreya looks so gorgeous that she already seemed like a winner. And that he doubted whether he would win. The graceful and down to earth being this diva is, Shreya replied gracefully that even if Shankar lost it, he should take it as a compliment because Shreya considers him as her guru and the victory of a student is always a compliment for the teacher. Shankar too said that he will be happy if indeed Shreya won the face-off.

So its clear now that our princess, Shreya, will be part of Star Plus show Music Ka Maha Muqabla.The channel has decided to reveal Shreya Ghoshal's name, who will be the sixth captain, in the first episode of the show. The show will be going on air in mid December.

Shreya was in Jaipur on 30th Nov in connection with the auditions of the show. Incidently, this sexy crooner was was born in Rawatbhata near Kota in Rajasthan and spent 13 years of her life in the state. In Jaipur, Shreya spoke to TOI on the sidelines of the auditions. Snippets of the interview are below :

Says Shreya " “A lot of budding singers who came for the auditions today were hardly 18 to 20 year olds. Though I started very early, I wouldn’t like them to follow my example. It is not the time to get into music but learn as much as one can and complete one’s education because one’s grasping power is at its peak. One must make the most of it, instead of getting commercial mileage out of music.”
And though she has learnt her music really well, she agrees that she did miss out on all the college fun. “I did miss the fun that college life has in store for youngsters, but I didn’t compromise on my academics.” And for being able to strike the right balance between her education and music she gives all the credit to her family.
“I managed to pull it off and complete my graduation because my family is very well educated, so that inclination was always there. And my family always supported me and took the right decisions on my behalf as I was too young to do so. However in many families, once the child gets into music, the whole focus shifts to just that. These days parents have a lot of expectations from their children, they think once their ward has stepped into the music industry he must become a superstar. Parents must know where to draw the line and in case one’s family isn’t that supporting one must use one’s own discretion,”.
Shreya, however, is not against reality shows, "“The whole format of reality shows is amazing. It offers a different kind of entertainment, has enormous reach and audience involvement. Earlier aspiring singers would long for a single break to get a foothold in the music industry but today courtesy these shows, a lot of newcomers are getting popularity and work. Also, the financial pressure is off them. But only those who are focussed prove to be winners”.
Talking of Rajasthan, Shreya says,“I have spent my childhood here and have this big connect with Rajasthan. I have learnt music here and love coming back to this place again and again. The weather of this place is so distinct that the moment you enter the state you know you are here. And the smell of its soil leaves me nostalgic,”. She adds the desert state has lots of talent. “The internal buzz in this reality show is that the best of talent comes from Rajasthan because music is in the blood of the people here. And the talent is unique because everybody is so grounded.”

Shreya leads a hectic life but she still manages to take time out for friends and especially for family gatherings. She loves to play badminton, read and ofcourse listen to good music. But one aspect, which no one knows is that Shreya loves to cook; epecially when she is stressed out. Says the ace crooner, "“I love to travel and read books but it’s cooking that has a healing effect on me. Whenever I am not well I cook something nice and the aroma of the food works wonders for me,”.

The D day came yesterday (21st Oct, 2009) when Shreya Ghoshal was presented, by the President of India, the National Film Award for the Best Female Singer at the 55th National Film Awards ceremony held at a grand function in Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

Amidst cheers, Shreya Ghoshal sang the foot tapping "Yeh Ishk Hai ; the song which fetched her this national recognition. By performing live at the Awards, Shreya created history for being the first singer ever to have performed at a National Film Award ceremony.

So, finally Shreya got an award for this song, which I always felt was more deserving than Barso Re. Many many congratulations to the diva with whom the entire nation seems to 'have fallen in love' !

This interview was done when recently Shreya Ghoshal was at Mano Murthy’s( Musician and composer mainly active in Kannada cinema industry) residence. Shreya is there to meet a few from the press and also to gorge on generous helpings of bisibelebath. Of course, she’s mainly here for the audio release of the Yograj Bhat directed film, “Manasare”. “That’s a different medium,” she says when someone asks her the usual question as to why she’s not acting (Alas! she decides to act!! We her fans are all waiting for that day).

The interview:
Q.You’ve worked with the best like Ilaiyaraja who’s very sure about what he wants and Rahman who improvises till the end. Tell us about Mano Murthy.

It’s easier to work with him. Once he’s tuned the song he gives the singer full freedom. He turns into a listener. After having understood the song, I like to enjoy it when recording.
I like to give inputs about variations in the songs graph. He enjoys that like a lover of music rather than a music director. He’s very appreciative and comfortable to work with. The best part is that he’s a very knowledgeable music director. He composes and writes the entire song. Once he’s done that he lets the singer fill the colours. I think it’s a completely different school.

Q. As long as you are in a reality show you are more like a mimicry artiste singing something which has already been rendered. How difficult is it when you have to interpret a composition in your own style?
Yes, that’s the most difficult thing. Many singers who’ve sung beautifully on the show have not been able to deliver when offered an original. That’s a good point. It also happens because they’ve trained to sound like the singer of the original or close to it. I believe that when they sing on the show they need not try to imitate the original. It’s good to sing in your own style.

Q. When you are given a song do you briefly contemplate how Lata or Asha would have sung that song?
Ummm… yes, this used to happen earlier. I’m a big fan of these two icons and it’s very possible that I get influenced by their styles. I think about how she would have nuanced the song. I’ve got over it now. There’s a subconscious that works when I’m singing. I do use her throw of words.

Q. You are talking about Lata?

Yes. She’s the personification of singing. I use her style when a music director understands and is a fan of hers too. Most of today’s compositions need a casual approach to the singing.

Q. Previously singers would try and see that their voice suited the stars in the film. Is that possible today?
No it’s not. Recently I sang for Sharmila Tagore. She’s been one of the most beautiful actresses, but is no longer young. Since I had to sing for the heroine too who’s a teenager I had to modulate my voice and make it sound heavier. I did not try anything technical but I thought of myself as an old person and it came across.

Q. Do you have a gift for languages? The acid test is Ilayaraja, who’s very particular about pronunciation and enunciation.
Absolutely. It was a learning process for me. Learning the song at Prasad studio from 10 a.m. and recording right in front of him in the singer’s room is scary because he’s right there and you don’t want to make mistakes. I’ve never felt he’s as strict as he’s made out to be. He loves music and the whole process. He’s so sure about what he wants and doesn’t like the singer to improvise much. He feels if the song is sung in pitch correctly, expressions will come naturally.

Q. There was a time when a duet was sung together……
I think that was an amazing period. There’s a rush and hurry now. Very few directors do one film at a time. The competition is cut throat and the requirements are commercial. I wish I were a part of that era if not as a singer at least as a witness to the process of recording.

Q. Ideally would you like more time to prepare for a recording?
Sometimes yes. I no longer rush from studio to studio. I sing one song a day. I’ve reached a point where I can take it easy. I’m not anxious about my song going to someone else.

Q. After ‘Manasare’ you’ve sung a lovely song in ‘Suryakanthi’ too.
Thank you. All credit to the music directors. That’s the reason I love singing in the South. There’s so much melody in Kannada film music. All the hits are not item numbers. Melody still rules here. That’s missing in mainstream Bollywood.

Q. Singers are the least fussy among creative people. Have you ever refused a song?
No. If at all I have it’s because the track played to me has been sung beautifully and I insist they retain it.
I feel the singer has already done justice to the song. I’ve done this twice and have been able to convince the music director to retain the voice of the track singer.

The princess of playback singing, Shreya Ghoshal, performed to a 10000+ strong crowd at the Maharaja’s College Grounds in Mysore. The event was a part of the celebration of the Yuva Dusherra . Mysore, as we all know is famous universally for its Dusherra.

The Yuva Dusherra(known as Dasara locally) was inaugurated by Kannada actor Ramya, following which the large crowd at the Maharaja’s College Grounds was treated to an ensemble of music, folk and dance.

The star of the night was the three-time national award winner and playback singer Shreya Ghoshal who rocked the crowd with her powerful & mellifluous voice. Backed by a group of professional musicians, her troupe had the crowd asking for more. It was raining as Shreya took on the show but the youth enjoyed to it all! At one stage, the crowd started chanting "Shreya Ghoshal, Shreya, Shreya..." The crowd was excited as Shreya Ghoshal, appeared on the stage. Wishing the crowd in Kannada, Shreya made a short speech saying that she had come to Dushera last year and it was memorable experience. "This crowd is very big. I am afraid whether I can sing," she said adding that she would make an effort.

Later Shreya began by singing "Oh, piya" from 'Devadas' followed by "Wada Raha Pyar Se Pyar Ka Ab Na Honge Juda..." which enthralled the crowd. Shreya's songs, "Agar Tum Mil Jao" and "Rab Ne Banaya Di Jodi" seemed to touch the hearts of the gathered youth as they all went groovy and blue.

Shreya continued with Hindi film songs one after another under colourful lights. When the youthful crowd demanded Kannada songs, Shreya sang "Aralutiru Jeevada Geleya, Baadadiru Snehada Hoove" from 'Mungaru Male'. The entire Maharaja's College grounds erupted in elation and the youth among the crowd danced at will as Shreya began singing "Ninna Nodalenthu, Mathanadalenthu, Yeno Onthara."

Shreya ruled the stage for over two hours and by then, the rains too stopped

Shreya to appear in a MJ tribute video

Red Chillies Entertainment is planning to bring out a video in tribute of the all time Pop King Michael Jackson. This video, which releases across the TV channels on 29th August, will feature singers Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, KK and Shankar and a host of Bollywood stars. The shooting of the video started on Wednesday and Shreya shot for it on Thursday(20th Aug'09).

The soundtrack of the video has also been sung by the above singers. Composer Vishal has written the song and the music has been composed by him and his partner Shekhar.

A live show in MJ's tribute is also being finalised for the same day.
This video and the live show is Bollywood's way of giving a tribute to MJ, whose songs and dance moves have been a inspiration to many a Bollywood/Tollywood/Kollywood blockbusters and videos.

New Marathi Release for Shreya Ghoshal

Big production and Big music have launched their first Marathi film venture, veteran filmmaker Amol Palekar’s latest creation 'Samaantar'. The music of the film was launched in Mumbai on 13 August. Shreya Ghoshal, alongwith Sudesh Bhonsle and Amol Palekar were present at the launch.

Critically acclaimed singers Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal, who are otherwise more popular for their Bollywood numbers, will be heard crooning to a melancholic marathi song 'Nuste Nuste' in the film. So, music buffs can expect another interesting Marathi song from Shreya after her songs in her debut Marathi album "Mazhi Gaani", which released in December last year.

Shreya Ghoshal, infact, plans to start working on her solo albums in Marathi and Bengali by the end of this year. Hindi should follow later, we hope!

The audio release of the Kannada film 'Manasare' took place at the Innovative Film City in Bidadi Industrial town (40kms from Bangalore) on 12th August. Shreya Ghoshal, who is currently having a good run with Kannada songs was the guest of honour.

Hyderabad based music company, Aditya Music has bought the music rights of Manasaare.

Although a 7 years+ as a singer now, this is actually the first time Shreya released a audio album! Shreya said, “My Kannada songs are very popular even in West Bengal. This is my first Kannada audio release function. In Kannada, I have sung nearly 100 songs.” Shreya enlightened the audience at the function by singing a stanza of a song in Manasaare.

Shreya, who won the best playback singer award for Nina Nodalenthu from the film Mussanje Mathu, was the most popular singer of the evening. “I knew this was coming, so I did my homework”, Shreya said in response to the many requests she got from the audience to sing the song. Star Ananda Shera Bengali 2009 Awards ceremony was held at Science City, Kolkata on 10th July evening. These awards celebrates the 'Best of Bong' every year.

Shreya Ghoshal alongwith singer Abhijeet gave a scintillating performance at the lavish event. Singing along with the crowd was Shreya’s mantra for the evening, insisting that the audience join the fun.

“Calcutta is the best place to perform, where else would I get such an audience who sing along with me throughout?” chirped the sexy Bong beauty.

The crowd just went mad about her. Mad was the word! It was sheer fanatical craze for the young crooner. She began with her recent megahits from the Bengali film Antaheen 'Jao pakkhi' and 'Pherari Mon', and then set the stage ablaze with her scorching Bollywood numbers from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Parineeta (Piyu Bole), Singh is Kinng (Teri Ore),Gangster, Devdas, Jab We Met and a few of her golden classical numbers. It was a music lover's dream come true! At around 10:30 pm the performance ended, with the audience dying for more of her.

The finale of her song saga was the fun song "Dhum Tana" from Om Shanti Om with Abhijeet.

Besides the live act, Shreya was also asked to give away the Fresh Face of the year award to Paoli Dam (Paoli will feature in Italo Spinelli’s film Choli Ke Peechhe).

Incidentally, Shreya Ghoshal has also been a past winner of Shera Bengali Award!

At the age of 10, our princess, our diva, Shreya, participated in the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contest for the first time where music director Kalyanji advised her parents to move to Mumbai. There, she trained under him for 18 months and under Mukta Bhide in classical music. “I attribute my success to all my gurus, especially Kalyanji,” she says.

From Indian folk to world beats, she has an ear for melodious music. “I am hungry for music. I look for a melodic soul in every kind of music,” she says. Of all the music composers, A.R. Rahman is her favourite since “he is the only composer who comes up with something new every time”. Despite her soaring popularity, solidified with the solo at the Shreya Ghoshal night at the Sydney Opera House last year, she has her feet placed firmly on the ground. And her nose buried in the latest Jhumpa Lahiri.

Her role model is her father Bishwajit Ghoshal, a scientist. The crooner diva finds her father to be the most sensitive person known to her. She wants to borrow his experiences and learn from them.
